VBS Planning Meeting

In it you will learn the habits for spiritual growth that will enable you to Contribute to the work of God at Flipside, in the Ranchos and around the world. 3 Annual Mexico Mission Trip

March 31st thru April 6th Cost: $350/person

During the week of spring break, Flipside will once again be off to Mexico! We are very excited to be able to offer this amazing, life-changing opportunity not only to the youth of Flipside but also to the FAMILIES of Flipside this year! 2012 Church Budget Meeting ~ Sunday, February 5th ~ 11:30am-12:30pm

This is a CHURCH-WIDE meeting and is open to EVERYONE who considers Flipside their home. On the agenda: planning out 2012 events and outlining ministry plans for the new year. Additionally, our finance team will be there to detail out Flipside’s fiscal budget for 2012. We want EVERYONE to be aware of our financial proposal for 2012...so please make it a priority to come. The meeting will be right after 2nd service, but since it is Super Bowl Sunday...we have chosen NOT to do the potluck.

Winter Camps are right around the corner, which means.... its time to start registering your kids for their amazing and fun-filled winter camp experiences. Below are the camp dates for each age group. You can pick up flyer's with all the details for each camp at the welcome Table! Registration deadlines will be here before you know it and spots are filling up fast... so get your kid signed up TODAY!

*Junior Camp (4th-6th graders) ~ only 15 spots left!

Hey Flipside Family!

A few reminders for this weekend...

First...remember that this Sunday is the deadline to contribute to our Adopt-A-Family Campaign. If you signed up last week or are interested in contributing to the work of God in the lives of a struggling Ranchos family...there will be envelopes available at the Ushers Table for you to make your contributions. Please be sure to grab one and drop it in the Offering Bowls at the end of either service.

This Sunday is also the deadline for the Flipside Toy Drive to aid the Poverello House. If you are planning on participating in this worthwhile cause...please bring your to "new or gently used" toys this weekend and drop them in our bin.

Lastly...don't forget that THIS Sunday is the Children's Christmas Musical! Curtains open at 6pm and seating is "first come, first sit"...so invite your friends and family and get there early! For those of you with kiddos participating in this year's performance...here is the dress rehearsal schedule:

*Saturday, December 10th ~ 9am-1pm @ Flipside Church

*Sunday, December 11th ~ ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE AT THE CHURCH BY 2:30pm. We will be providing dinner for the kids prior to the performance.

Flipside Christmas Toy Drive

Hey Flipside Family!

Just a reminder about the Flipside Christmas Toy Drive to aid the Poverello House's effort to provide toys and wonderful Christmas memories to the less fortunate children of the Fresno area. Last year alone they collected and distributed over 2500 toys to needy families...and that still wasn't enough! This year Flipside is stepping in to help meet this worthy need!

Bring your new or "gently used" toys to church with you on Sundays from now through December 11th and drop them in our collection can. There is a special need for toys for kids ages 0-3 and for kids over 13 yrs. For questions or more info...contact Terry Fox @ (559) 960-3824.

Harvest Party this Monday!!!!

Hey Flipside Family!

Wow!! October has flown by...and with the end of the month comes the Flipside Harvest Party! YAY!!

For those of you who graciously picked an item to donate from our "Donation Pumpkins"...but forgot to bring that item back last weekend...please make sure you bring it to church THIS Sunday! We will need to have ALL items back by then so we can see what we still need to go get. If anyone took an item...but is going to be unable to donate it after all...please let me know by responding to this email so I can add it to the list of items we need to pick up. THANK YOU!! :)

I also still have about 15 more shifts to fill at the game booths and inflatables. The shifts are only an hour and a half and it is a great way to serve our church and community! If anyone is interested in serving in this manner...please contact me by responding to this email asap! And...don't forget to let me know which shift you would like to work...5-6:30pm or 6:30-8pm. There are 8 shifts available at each time!

If you have signed up to bring a baked item for the Cake Walk...please bring those items to church on Sunday also.

Thanks again for your continued willingness to serve and your committment to this church and our community outreaches...you really are a world class church! :)

Harvest Party in 11days & counting

Hey Flipside Family!

Can you believe the Flipside Harvest Party is only 11 days away?! Time is flying by and one of our BIGGEST outreach events will be here before you know it!

For those of you who have graciously taken items off of our “Donation Pumpkins”… THIS SUNDAY is the deadline to bring those items back! You can put your donated items under the Harvest Party Table in the Welcome Area. Thank you all so much for your generosity!

I would also like to give a big THANK YOU to those of you who have already brought in candy! We are getting super close to having what we need…so please…keep it coming!! J We have less than 2 weeks left to get enough candy to distribute to the all the kids of this community!

There are also still MANY places left to volunteer your time and talents on that night. We have LOTS of game booth shifts available, for both the early and later shift times. We also still need lots of lighting. It is getting dark much earlier now so we will need to make sure there is plenty of light for our event. If you have portable, free-standing outdoor lighting that you would be willing to allow us to use on that night…we would sure appreciate it. J

I am confident that this year’s Harvest Party is going to be the best one that Flipside has put on yet! Thanks so much for your continued support in our efforts to reach out to the Ranchos community in ways that make sense to those who may not know the Good News of Christ yet. I am so proud of this church body for being a light in this community by putting on events like our Harvest Party…this is what makes the Ranchos such a great place to raise a family! J

Special Message from Flipside about our Flip Flop Campaign!

Hey Flipside Family! :)

God is good...ALL the time!! And He has definately been at work for our Operation Flip Flop Campaign!! Here's the latest update:
Our flip flops are ALREADY in Afghanistan! Between the US Postal Service and the Military Postal Service...deliveries to Afghanistan usually take 3-6 weeks...but God got them there in 9 DAYS!! INCREDIBLE!! An extensive humanitarian event will be taking place August 25th at which Jonathon and his team will be handing out the flip flops so the kids will have shoes on their feet! Glory to God! Thank you Flipside & all who provided flip flops, ordering, shipping, finances, and prayers! You are a world class church! :)

Children's Next Step & Baptism Class

Hey Flipside Family!

Just a reminder that I will be holding another "Children's Introduction to Christianity and Water Baptism" Class THIS Sunday during the 9am service.

If you are the parent of a child who is ready to take the next step in their walk with God by being baptized...this class is a must! It will help you and your child understand more clearly what they are committing themselves to and where they go from here! It will also help me determine which kids are ready to take the step of baptism and which need a bit more tutoring before our next baptism celebration. I just wanted to send out a big THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to our "Flip Flops for Afghanistan" campaign! It has made such an impact that Channel 47 came out and did a story about what we are doing...and it was AWESOME! For those of you who may have missed the original broadcast...I am attaching a link so you can watch the story!

I have also been asked to attach this message that Renee received from the wife of soldier that is serving with Jonathan in Afghanistan:

A little message I got today from 1st Sgt Hartings wife, Heidi...

"Please give your church and all those involved my deepest thanks, what a wonderful gift to the Afghan children that see so much suffering."

I am so proud of our church family...and of Jonathan for not only serving our great country...but for serving the children and people of Afghanistan, too!

What an awesome showing of God's love and mercy! :)

Flipside is on a Mission to provide flip-flops for the people of Afghanistan who are in such need that they walk the dusty street with NO shoes at ALL!!!! With the help of our own Jonathan Ginn, Flipside's active duty Marine, we will be collection flip-flops for the entire month of June for Jon to hand out while he is serving in Afghanistan! So... Don't forget to bring some flip-flops to church and help us get the Good News of Jesus into Afghanistan!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to give a quick recap of VBS and thank all of you for your support. VBS was an impactful time for all leaders and children. We want to say thank you to all who supported VBS through donations, time, and prayer. God worked in amazing ways during VBS. One of the ways was God sightings and how God was apparent through the children in their unconditional love for God and others. Also, in the leaders with their daily sacrifice of giving up their evenings to be there. We had a total of over 90 leaders who helped and over 120 children attend. On the 4th day children were given a time to make a decision to follow Jesus or take their next spiritual step. There were over 42 children that made decision, PRAISE GOD!!!! The children will be contacted to provide them with follow-up and information. Children will be given an opportunity to participate in the next baptism. We will be setting a date soon.
The final VBS day was also a "Wonderful" example of how God provides. During every VBS there is a mission that we support. Our mission this year was collecting flip flops for the children of Afghanistan. Our goal at the beginning of VBS was 1000 flip flops. On the 3rd day it was laid on our hearts to stretch our goal to 2000 flip flops and see how God would answer our prayers. IT WAS SO AMAIZING… the children on the final day brought in over $900. Thank you God!!! At the closing of the 5th day we had collected over $1750 to go towards the mission. We realized that we were $204 short of the goal. Jon Bronkowski stepped up the plate and said if we could raise the other $204 he would take a pie along with Karl and Josh. The Very Important Pandas ( AKA -Parents and Grandparents) who attended our FINALE- contributed the remanding $204 (in an auction like way) to achieve the 2000 flip flops. God is Great, He is Awesome! Thank you so much for being (as Karl says) "A World Class Church".

Also, this Sunday! Come support our Flipside Youth Group as they raise funds to go to the 2011 OGN Conference at the end of this month. The Operation Good News Conference is an amazing experience for our teens which will provide them with an opportunity to learn more about their faith, how to talk about it to others, and will give them practical tools to help them communicate the gospel more like Jesus did! This Sunday, June 26th they will be hosting a BBQ Sandwich Fundraiser! You can get a BBQ’d Chicken Sandwich, Cole Slaw, and a Slushee to go for only $4. Or...if you need a family meal...you can get a meal to serve 4 for only $15, or a meal to serve 6 for only $20! You can purchase your meals any time before or after either service. Thanks for supporting the kids of our High School Youth Group!

Hey Flipside Family!

This is a reminder to those of you who

graciously took VBS donation leaves from our bamboo tree.First...THANK YOU so much for your generosity and willingness to pitch in and help us get the items we needed for this years VBS! We couldn't do these events without you and you are soo appreciated!

If you could please bring your items to the church as soon as possible...that would be very helpful to us, as we are trying to tie down all our loose ends and make sure we have all the supplies we need to make VBS run smoothly!

Our decorating team will be at the church every night this week decorating and setting things up from 6-8:30pm...so if you could drop your off donation items sometime during those hours that would be great!

For those of you who can't pull off a weeknight drop off...you can still bring your donation items to church with you THIS Sunday. Thanks again for all each of you do to support our Flipside Children's events...these are the things that make amazing memories for our Ranchos kiddos!

Don't forget...Flipside's PandaMania VBS starts THIS Sunday at 5:30pm...and it's gonna be a "wild" time! :) If you haven't yet registered your child for this year's VBS fun...THERE IS STILL TIME! You can register them online at the Flipside website at www.acts176.com or on Sunday night at VBS. The cost is only $20 for all 5 days of fun...so register you kids TODAY!

Anyone willing to come down to the church to help with decorations (painting, creating props/sets, decorating the church rooms, etc.) we would LOVE and APPRECIATE the help! Kim Stroemer will be here every night from 6-8:30pm starting tonight until it's done...so if you have the time, please come out and lend a hand! Remember Flipsiders...many hands make for light work!

Hey Flipside Family!

If you have a child who will be attending this year's "Pandamania" VBS...please get them registered as soon as possible. The registration fee of $20 can be paid at a later date...but we need to have everyone who is planning on attending registered right away so we have an idea of the number of kids we will need to provide supplies, snacks and staffing for. We also need to get the VBS shirts ordered and will need to have the registered kids shirt sizes in order to get that done.

For your convenience...you can register your child on-line at www.acts176.com under the Children's Ministry tab. Or each Sunday there is a registration insert that can be filled out and put in with the offering.

Please help us make this another amazing Flipside VBS by getting your child registered NOW...they are gonna have a "WILD" time! :)

Graduation Time

Graduation is right around the corner and Flipside would like to acknowledge our 2011 graduates!

June 5th is "Promotion Sunday"! If you have a loved one who is moving from 6th to 7th grade...8th to 9th grade...12th grade to collegeor a college grad...please send us their picture and full name for a special video presentation we are putting together. Graduation/promotion is a huge accomplishment that is deserving of a special tribute...please help us make this a special and memorable moment for our Flipside graduates!

Another big event that is coming up is the LHS Baccalaureate Service on Wednesday June 1st. We would like to encourage everyone at Flipside to come show their support of the 2011 graduating class and help start the legacy of an annual baccalaureate service in the Ranchos. Even if you don't have a student who is graduating...or even in high school yet...supporting this event NOW will ensure that when our littles ones are ready to graduate they, too, will get the amazing experience of having a baccalaureate service as part of their "senior experience"!

Again...Wednesday, June 1st at 7pm... we invite you to come join us in prayerfully sending our graduating seniors off on their new life adventures and in being a part in creating a lasting and meaningful tradition for all Ranchos kids! :)

Marriage Tune-up

As part of our 2011 church-wide focus on Stewardship, we are happy to offer our next seminar…

“Marriage Tune-up ~ Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage”

This is a funny, light-hearted look at the differences between men and women and how those differences affect our marriages. With tools and techniques given to help us “tune-up” our relationships to our spouses...this will be a fun way to get a better understanding of how to have and keep a healthy and strong marriage.

The Marriage Tune-Up will be presented in 3 sessions.

The 1st, “HIS BRAIN, HER BRAIN” will be held on Friday, May 13th from 7-9pm
The 2nd, “HOW TO HAVE MINDBLOWING MARRIED SEX” will be held on Saturday, May 14th from 7-9pm
The last, “HOW TO STAY MARRIED AND NOT KILL ANYONE” will be held on Sunday, May 15th from 4-6pm.

As an added bonus...after Sunday nights tune-up concludes, we invite you to enjoy a “Date Night” out with your spouse from 6-9pm!

Flipside Update

We have so much going on and so many things have changes over the last couple of years. At-least since the last post was in 2009. We have moved from Liberty High school Theater to the center of the rancho community, the "Maywood Center"!!! Right behind the Ranchos cafe on Avenue 12. We have two Services at 9:ooam and 10:30am. With Children and Youth programs during both hours.

God has blessed us so much to have a place to call home.

Flipside is "A WORLD CLASS CHURCH" (as Karl keeps saying)

This Year we have themed "Reclaim Your Legacy".

What this in tales is straight from God.

God offers us a legacy
and asks for a commitment

Genesis 12:1-5

We will face problems

“How many times have you missed witnessing God at work in the midst of your shattered dream because you gave up on him five minutes- or five years- too soon?”

We must reconfirm our commitment

And praise be to God Most High,who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. Genesis 14:20

God reconfirms His promise... with a Miracle!

Genesis 15:1-5 (chpt 18, 20)

During this process God will change who we are to match Our Legacy

No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. Genesis 17:5

"plant and harvest your crops for six years, but let the land rest and lie fallow during the seventh year."

This seems like such a strange command, and honestly like one of those that God wouldn't be that upset about it they didn't keep it. After all, it just seems quite silly if I'm honest. It also would seem that Israel kept it- after all didn't they do pretty well at obeying God... for the most part? Not so fast- "work the land for six years, and take the seventh as a Sabbath". If I search the Bible I find to indication the nation of Israel every kept this command as a nation, on an ongoing basis. Interesting... The result? They eventually ended up in captivity... slaves of foreigners. Lives were destroyed, families torn apart, homes in ruins. What can I learn from this command and the fact that the blaring sound of silence regarding Israel's obedience is deafening? Think about this... Israel neglected this command for 490 years. How long were they in captivity? 70 years. Seems as though that's one year for every 7 they missed. The land finally got its rest and Israel's sin was finally dealt with . Wow! Now consider this: When is enough really enough? Is God the God of second chances?

I suggest God is the God of second chances... BUT... one more thing to think about. How often are we told to forgive another... to give someone a "second change"? 70x7 Right? How many is that? 490! Sound familiar? We must be careful... rather I must be careful... not to consider God's commands silly or that He really doesn't mind if I disobey some of them. Is God the God of second chances? Yes- consider David, Peter, Jonah, Nineveh... Is God the God of second chances? No- consider Achan, Ananias and Saphira, Sodom and Gomorrah...

Certainly God does give us multiple chances BUT this scripture reminds me that maybe sooner- maybe later- if sin persists unchecked and unrepented of it will destroy. Nineveh got a second chance (see Jonah), but not a third (see Nahum).

I must be watchful that I don't hold in contempt the grace of God. I must realize sin comes at a high price. I must learn to fear God- to treat Him with contempt is deadly.

i spent the last couple days in dallas, tx doing training for a church planter we are supporting (flipside texas, that's pretty cool). my family usually plays board games together weekly so doing it again isn't a big deal, it's part of what we do as a family and it builds great memories (usually). last night my boys asked if we could play a game and of course shel and i said "absolutely". they brought out the "sorry" board game, disney edition... shel and i had read geri's blog... we knew we were in for a "treat". all i can say is that the game started off looking great for me. i had multiple players (i was the disney 'evil' characters) half way around the board within the first couple turns. everyone else was stuck in the start position. suddenly, without showing any love or concern for dear ol' dad who just returend from dallas, they all got "sorry" cards, took my spot on the board, and sent my characters back to start. i was floored... no love for daddy! the boys were laughing with evil glee, shellie was thrilled because she was in first place and eventually won the game. everyone finished the game and i wasn't even half way around the board. when i was young i loved playing the game. now... not so much. there is no love in the sorry game... don't expect any... don't give any... sorry :) serioiusly, we had a great time just playing a game as a family. it was fun. tonight is date night. i'm excited to spend some time with shel. life gets very busy doing 'important' stuff, even doing a lot of things with the kids. however, it is increasingly difficult to make time away from all things work, volunteering, and children so that mom and dad can 'date'. dating is an important part of marriage and i'm looking forward to taking shel out tonight. i am also thankful for flipside church that provides opportunities for husband/wife to date each other while the church provides quality child care. thanks flipside.
